4. DVT diagnostics

We have been using Digital Volume tomography (DVT) in the Sternklinic since 2008 and this was the first system installed in the Bremen area. This system enables a full three-dimensional diagnostics of the craniofacial area to be made, like the one you know from CAT scans (CT). The DVT system generates five times less exposure to radiation as compared to CT, depending on the resolution that is used. Your doctor or dentist will normally transfer you to us for examination. In the case of special issues, for example, when planning dental implants, your doctor / dentist will give you other documents such as x-ray pictures or implant templates to bring with you so that we can adapt the examination to the specific problem. We will show the DVT system image to you on the computer afterwards and explain the results to you. Both you and your doctor / dentist will receive a data record of the examination from us together with the relevant viewer software saved on a CD.

Private health insurers normally pay the cost of the DVT process. Those covered by social health insurance schemes must pay the costs themselves. The ensuing costs depend entirely on the type and scope of the DVT examinations carried out – we will be pleased to advise you about this.

5. Dental treatment after the implantation

As surgical specialists we are solely responsible for the surgical treatment part of the process as well as the planning and fitting of the actual implants and, if necessary, any additional preparatory measures, such as bone augmentation or minor corrections to the roof of your mouth, where the implant will enter the jaw ridge as well. The replacement teeth will be supplied and implanted by the dentist of your choice, with whom we will have to work very closely with during the period of treatment.

6. Choosing the implants

A surgically active implant specialists with many years experience in this field, we use a variety of well-established implant systems  from leading manufacturers, such as Straumann, Camlog, Semados, NobelBiocare, Friadent & Astratech. We never offer you alleged “economical” implants from dubious manufacturers. The choice of most suitable implants for you depends not only on the specific requirements, but also the preferences of your dentist, who will be actually be fitting the replacement tooth in the implant.

7. The point in time when a consultation should be made regarding a dysgnathia operation

Your orthodontist will have told you that you, your daughter or son needs a dysgnathia operation (corrective surgery called a dysgnathia operation). You will probably have received this information with great concern and have grave doubts as to whether such an “invasive” measure to correct the abnormality is actually necessary and justifiable. We recommend that you make an appointment for an extensive initial consultation with us as early as possible so that we can explain the surgical procedures to you in order to help you come to a decision.
